• Group Classes, Asana

Patanjali, considered the father of yoga, considered asana (“postures”) the third rung of the eight limbs of yoga. In the west, asanas are synonymous with yoga, to the extent that many consider asanas and yoga as the same concept. But, one should always remember that yoga in its broadest sense entails greater immersion than the postures so commonly and almost exclusively associated with it. Nevertheless, asana offers an amazing means of controlling the physical body to help clear the clouded mind of its obstacles to serene awareness and will definitely enhance positive meditation.

These classes seek to create a balanced and individualized session for each student. The linking of breath and movement, the “yoke” of yoga asana, will be emphasized in every class. Each pose is explored and fine tuned to make it available to every student on the level appropriate for them. Participants will hold the poses for longer periods than in many contemporary yoga practicesand then repeat them, building physical strength while improving balance and flexibility.  Various props will be used to further enhance adaptability and aid in alignment. Each pose will be referred to in its Sanskrit form because this name actually helps describe the pose's intentions while also honoring yoga's rich tradition.

We offer asana classes in three basic forms: a beginner's level class, an advanced level class, and an mixed level class. Prior experience will be required by the advanced class, but anyone may attend the beginner's classes.  The beginner's level classes seek to familiarize students with some of the basic asana postures and the concept of controlled breathing linked to the body's movements. The advanced classes, on the other hand, consider students already aware of  these components, enabling the teacher to explore yoga's potential more intensely and with more specificity. The mixed level classes will engage advanced students while welcoming beginning students. The poses will be offered with various modifications that make it suitable for anyone.

Classes exploring the other “limbs” (pranayama, chanting, meditation) of yoga will be introduced over time, as we move further into our practices together.

• Individual Sessions •

IIndividual asana sessions make it easier to set and achieve goals, especially for those with particular abilities or those wishing to pursue specific improvements. Indeed, individual classes offer the best opportunity to begin to develop a personal practice, highlighting special details and alignments that may be minimized in group sessions. The student will determine the focus of each sessions. Examples include chest-opening, rejuvenation, detoxification, building upper-body strength, prenatal, among many others. Yoga should be an individual's experience, fine-tuned to explore one's strengths and weaknesses, and adaptable through time. The classes can be one-on-one or shared with a friend, and will last 75 minutes . Numerous times will be available, but one week advance appointment will be required.
